FOUND GUILTY OF HERDER'S DEATH Voluntary Manslaughter Is Verdict Returned by Jury at Coalville. Special to Tli Tribanf . COALVILLE. Nov. II. Mike Finnan, a sheepherder, charged with murder m Lite first degree for the kiliing of Frank Gilbert, Gil-bert, also a sheepherder. in the Bear River country, July 24, last, was found guilty of voluntary manslaughter by a Jury in the district court at 10 o'clock tonight. The quarrel between the men which resulted in the killing was caused by Finnan Fin-nan kicking a dog belonging to Gilbert. Finnan testified that he Uriel to settle the difficulty between himself and Gilbert Gil-bert in an amicaMo manqer, but that Gilbert refused his overtures and attacked at-tacked liim. Finnan pleaded self-defense. After Finnan had shot and fatatlly wounded GMbert. he place! the dying man on a pack-horse and took him several sev-eral miles to the nearest raaeh house, where Finnan assisted iu efforts to save his life. He then surrendered to the sheriff. It is understood that an appeal to the supreme court will be taken in the case, , should the trial court deny a motion for a new trial. Judge J. Lotts Brown of Salt lake presided at tho trial.
