Special to The Tribune. x CHEYENNE, Nov. Fifty state guardsmen today were sent to Hot Springs county with, specific instructions from Governor Robert D. Carey to stamp out bootlegging there. It is held by the authorities that the considerable amount of liquor available, together with the Inflammatory In-flammatory threats by alien strikers, has prevented the coal miners at Gebo from returning to work. The strike was called off in this state last Saturday. The guardsmen were ordered to disarm all aliens in addition to stamping out the illegal traffic in whisky. The Gebo radicals radi-cals today visited Kirhy, a near-hy 'camp, and tried to intimidate the miners there into quitting work. They were unsuccessful. unsuccess-ful. Gebo is the only coal camp in the state which -has not resumed operations. Governor Carey today accepted the res- ' ignation of Fred Crabbe as state commissioner commis-sioner of prohibition. The office was created cre-ated at the last session of the legislature especially for Mr. Crabbe. He had been superintendent of the Wyoming anti-saloon league and had taken a prominent part in the election resulting in the adoption adop-tion of the prohibition constitutional amendment. Mr. Crabbe stated in ii is letter of resignation resig-nation that in his five months of office he found himself unable to induce county and local authorities to enforce the prohibition prohi-bition statute. He alleged that bootlegging bootleg-ging Is spreading in the state. It is understood un-derstood that the office vacated by Mr. Crabbe will be offered to Alonto L Roach, sheriff of Platte county. |
