Show WATCHBATTERY Karl Winter Points Out Extra Demand Caused by Cold Weather. "If you use your car in winter re-member re-member that your battery receives special spe-cial care," says Karl Winter, 719 South State street. Utah distributor for Philadelphia Phil-adelphia Diamond Grid batteries. "In j cold weather the battery has to do just about double its ordinary work," continued con-tinued Mr. Winter, "because the days are short and the headlights are used more. Cold weather also increases the viscosity of oil, making gasoline harder to ignite and starting the motor more difficult. This extra work must be done by a battery with efficiency way below par because any storage battery is just about fifty per cent its rated capacity on a cold day. "Therefore, the battery's job should be made easier by using the right grade of oil and by employing the air choke to introduce a rich mixture into the cylinder when starting. In many cases throwmg out the clutch makes starting easier. When stopping, the next start may be made easi"rby speeding up the engine, turning off the ignition and then using the air choke so as to leave the cylinders filled with rich mixture. " A" fully charged batterv is proof against freezing. A discharged battery will freeze almost as easily as water. Freezing usually m'ans ruin. To take care of the winter motorist, special facilities fa-cilities have been arranged in our plant to give proper service on '"eehargiug and storage.
