(By tho Associated .jcss.) American troops tliis morning attacked tho village of Cantigny, northeast north-east of Montdidier, attaining all, their objectives. The German counter-attack was feeble. The American losses were light, but tho Americans captured 200 Germans, including two officers. Tho American attack was along a two kilometer front and it seems to have taken the hard-hitting Americans just about three-quarters of an hour to complete com-plete their conquest, which included that amount of territory as well as the village of Cantigny an exceptionally short line for such an operation. COMPANION PIECE TO BRITISH ATTACK. This remarkably fine showing conies as a fitting companion pieco to the brilliant work done by the United States soldiers in repulsing an enemy assault made against them in tho same region yesterday morning. One American Amer-ican division was attacked at that time, and tho gray coats met with a complete reversal at all points. This enemy attack was not a heavy one, however, and was easily dealt with ""by the Americans, who had the situa-,'Jtion situa-,'Jtion well in hand at. all times. kYord of these two victories has a??lcd much to the very favorablo impression im-pression which the American troops already al-ready have created along the British front. ATTACK EXPECTED ON U. S. SECTOR. It was a foregone conclusion that the Germans would make the newest of the allies along this front the qbject of an attack in an attempt to push them back and thereby create a feeling that they had formed a weak link in the defending de-fending chain. The general opinion of the way in which these American troops have handled han-dled themselves iu the last two days seems to be summed up in a comment made to the correspondent this afternoon after-noon by a French liaison officer. . ''Magnificent!'' he exclaimed with delight. "That is the sort of stuff we will givo the boche. " PERSHING REPORTS U. S. ADVANCE ON GERMAN SECTOR WASHINGTON'. May 28.
