The plan to put stations for deputies besides the tour main roads leading out of the city has been under consideration by Sheriff John S. C'orless for soino time. Recently he got the approval of Governor Bamberger for the plan and yesterday determined upon the locations for the "buildings, which have already been constructed in the knockdown and are ready to be taken to the sites and set up. The county and the state are sharing the expense. One of the station houses will be located lo-cated at tho city dam in Parley's canyon, can-yon, another at Beck's Hot springs, a third at the point of tho mountain near the Jordan narrows and the fourth at the smelter slag dump at Garfield, on the road to Tooele county. With the stations thus located it will be impossible for any vehicle other than a flying machine to get into or out of the city without beinp checked, and if thought necessary, challenged by the deputy sheriffs on guard. The plan to place the stations on the roads is tli3 outgrowth of the successful success-ful operation of the sheriff's office in catching automobile thieves. Deputy Sheriff C. E. Wood, who has had much to do with the recovery of stolen automobiles, auto-mobiles, has favored a plan of the sort for the past year. When it was submitted sub-mitted by Sheriff Corless to Governor Bamberger on his return to the city the executive approved at once and the order or-der for the houses was given to a local contractiug concern. . Their completion made necessary the selection of the sites yesterday. |
