Show CHARGE AGAINST WOMAN WITHDRAWN Prosecution Moves Abandonment of Case Against Agent of Police Purity Squad. The charge of being an absconding debtor, preferred against Helen Barker by the management of the TsTewhouse hotel, was dismissed yesterday. Jfenry C. Lund, justice of the peace, before whom hearing in the case was begun, acted affirmatively on a motion of the prosecution for discharge of the defendant, defend-ant, counsel for the hotel management, associated xvith the county attorney, offering the motion. The court also ordered withdrawn the bench warrant issued Wednesday for the young woman. Helen Barker, an agent of the police purity squad, was charged with having left an unpaid bill at the Newhouse hotel when she checked out on February 25. The hearing was begun a week ago, at which time evidence was introduced in-troduced to show that she went to Ogden Og-den at tho time of leaving the New-house New-house hotel and registered at the Reed hotel there under another name. Her failure to appear Wednesday morning for resumption of the hearing provoked a bench warrant, but she could not be found in the city. Though she is reported to have gone to Denver, her whereabouts at the present time constitute something of a mystery. |
