MAKES ATTACK ON WOMAN IN HOUSE Several Homes Entered by Robber, Considerable Booty Being Obtained Ob-tained in Visits. That the "elusive" burster has not left Salt .Lake, but continues his nightly i aids on the homes of the city without apparent fear of the police, who have consistently suppressed the reports of his activities, was brought out yesterday when it was learned that the scene of the bandit's operations have merely been shifted from the east to the west side, where he has for a week been practically prac-tically terrorizing the residents in the vicinity of Eighth South, from Third to Fifth West streets. It was further learned that no less than four burglaries and an attempted assault on a young woman were committed com-mitted by him early Tuesday morning, and that to one of hia victims joked at the expense of the police before leaving the house, while for another victim, who discovered him in the bedroom, he courteously cour-teously and laughingly offered to telephone tele-phone for the officers before he disappeared. dis-appeared. The residences entered by him at that time were those of Mrs. Frank R. Williams, 1 Lester court; Mrs. Florence Flor-ence Hadlock, 7 Lester court; J. M. Petersen, T.'Ui South Fourth 'West, and Mrs. Edna Snyder, 32S . West Eighth South street. Seizes Young Woman. At the home of David Fullmer, a Denver Den-ver & Rio Grande' employee living at 54G South Fourth West street, he attempted at-tempted to drag Norma Fullmer, 17 years old, from the house when she came to the door at 3:30 a. m., in answer to a ring at tho bell, partly ruining her night clothes before he was frightened away by her screams. The man is described as about 5 feejt 0 inches in height, well built and wear-in; wear-in; a brown coat and blue trousers. He wears rubber heels and soles on his shoes, according to those who have had experience experi-ence with him. so that his movements are practically noiseless. "I awoke shortly before: f; o'clock," Mrs. Williams said yesterday, "and saw the man In our bedroom going through my husband's trousers, from which he took $13, all the money we had. I was too frightened to scream or to move, but as soon as he was gone I awoke my husband. We wept out to the -front of the house and while Mr. Williams went around the back 1 came face to face with the footpad, who had just come from the yard of a house three doors away. When ho met me he said he bad had a burglar In his house and I, of course, not recognizing him, thought he lived there. I then told him that we had Just had a burglar, and he smiled and aeked if he could do anything1 for me and suggested sug-gested that perhaps he could call the police. 1 told him I would be obliged to him for calling the police, and he smiled and walked away toward Seventh South. After going a hundred feet, he laughed, waved his hand and broke into a run. Then I realized that I had been talking to the thief himself." Robs a ('ripple. Evidently prior to entering the Williams Wil-liams home, the "elusive" one visited the Hadlock residence, where he secured $7 and some change. Mr. Hadlock is crippled, having lost an arm some years ago, and the loss of the money is keenly felt by the family, as it included every cent they had In tbe world, according to Mrs. Hadlock, who has several small children. The loss was not discovered until the family arose an hour later. According to J. M. Petersen, his daughter. daugh-ter. 22 years old, was awakened about 5 o'clock to find the man standing he-side he-side her bed. shaking her shoulder. She was too terrified to scream until he had gone, according to her father. Then he turned and left by tbe front door, through which he had entered by unhooking the screen with a wire and then using a pass key. When Irene recovered from her fright she Investigated In-vestigated and found her brother sound a-slcep. Realizing that the intruder must have been a thief, she awakened the Eamfly, and investigation developed the fact that J7.30 had vajiishpd from my son's pocket. The boy and I hastily donned our clothes and scoured the neighborhood. About a block from the house we found a man who answered perfectly .the description my daughter (Continued on Page TMrteeu.) According to Mrs. Snyder, who liven but half a block from the Williams and Hadlock residences, the man must have visited her home before proceeding to the Petersen place, and the speed Willi which he gets around is satd to be notable. "I think it was a little before " ..'clock." Mrs. Snyder Bald, "wlwn 1 awoke and saw the man reaching fon rny husbnnd's troupers which lay on a nearby near-by chair. When I asked what lie w..in.
