Show DOWNEY-OXFORD OIL FIELD ENCOURAGES Pocatello Men Inspect tho District and Are Enthusiastic Over Conditions and Prospects. Special to The Tribune. POCATELLO, Idaho, May 23. Pocatello Poca-tello oil men are enthusiastic over the new oil field discovered about fifty miles south of this city in the Downey-Oxford Downey-Oxford district. The Oxford valley is pronounced by experienced oil men to have all the earmarks ear-marks of a perfect oil basin and light seeps of oil have been found on many surface wells in this section. It is now recalled that a tremendous flow of gas was accidentally struck at Oxford several sev-eral years ago when drilling for water. A syndicate of Oxford and Pocatello men, under the leadership of Cap Homer of Oxford, G. J. McCabe of this city and C. L. Allen of California, is being formed to open up the abandoned gas well and drill below it for oil. There is evidence of oil strata in this section which is very similar to that of the Wyoming oil fields, large fossil fish, sandstones and oil-bearing shales having hav-ing been found. . . |
