Barker, against five of the eight boxcar robbers, rob-bers, who pleaded guilty to the charge of petit lareenv before him this morning. morn-ing. The defendants were Herman Winters. Fleming Stanford. Joe Russell. K. 11. Kellogg and 1'aul Cutter. The complaints against Tony Saleriuo, Fred Fife and Lloyd Treseder were dismissed, as the boys", who were less than IS rears of age, had been turned over to the juvenile court. The list of the goods which the defendants de-fendants admitted to the officers they had taken from botcars was forty sacks of sugar, forty sacks of beans and two typewriters, all of the estimated esti-mated value of $1100. It developed that the 'operations of boxcar robbers have been under investigation inves-tigation by the police department since January 29. In connection with this case Captain 0. II. Mohlman of the police department brought Fred Bremer to Ogden this afternoon from Salt Lake, where he was arrested last night at the request of the local police. In the arrest of Bremer, Captain Mohlman and Thomas Burge of the Bio Grande said they had received information informa-tion which will "lead to the recovery of 1400 pounds of beans. They also declared' de-clared' that the boys who had pleaded to the charge of petit larceny today had advised Mr. Burge that Bremer had shown them where the beans were and how to obtain them. It is the opinion of the police that they will be able to show lurther activity ac-tivity of Bremer in connection with the boxcar robberies. Leroy Mecomber, arrested two weeks ago by Captain Mohlman. was arraigned ar-raigned in court today and his preliminary prelim-inary hearing set for March. He is charged with grand larceny in the theft of auto tires from the Southern Pacific. Pa-cific. The tires, which were sold to local dealers, were recovered by the police. |
