I'dspatches received re-ceived here indicated continued German movement alonpr all fronts toward Vitebsk, Vit-ebsk, Minsk, Pskoff and Reval. (-i'man a i rmen a re reported to have raided Regitsa on Monday. Many bombs were dropped and several peisops were killed. The raJders disappeared toward Dvir.sk. Just two hours after thei armistice ended end-ed German troops entered Dvinsk. It was 2 o'clock on the afternoon of February Febru-ary 1$ that German patrols unexpectedly appeared around the city and seized the railway stations and other central points. Only small skirmishes with fleeing soldiers sol-diers took place. The Hed guards offered of-fered no resistance, while the artillery and Infantry were demobilizing and wholly whol-ly unprepared to fisjht. Attempts to evacuate were successful. Much heavy artillery and large quantities quanti-ties of ammunition fell into the hands of the Germans. The civil population had no opportunity to escape. The commissaries of the local workmen's work-men's and soldiers' council tried to escape disguised as soldiers, but they were seized by the Ge-rmans. |
