GniliN", head of the department of parks and public properly, is planning plan-ning a contest for naininp the new west side parU on the Jordan river. He is of the opinion that the name should be determined by the people of the west side. I le announces that any person living west of Main street is invited to submit a name for the park. Already a preliminary pian for the work has been worked out by Commissioner Fireen and his assistants. The tract, which was recently purchased by the citv, lies between ICighth West street and the Jordan river, due west of Liberty park. It is sixteen acres In extent. The plan for the park contemplates devotion of about four acres next to the bank of the river lo playgrounds. Boating Boat-ing will be one of the possible amusements. amuse-ments. The front of the park is to be planted to trees, lawns and flowers, intersected in-tersected by paths, ail of which will lead to t lie bandstand. Two brick bungalows are now on tlie property. These are to be converted lo the needs of the park, rather than razed, si nee l hey are handsome in appearance. No provision for entrance of automobiles to the main part of the park is to be made, sufficient room for parking them to be provided next to the playgrounds, if the side streets prove inadequate.
