Show JUSTICE V. M. M'CARTY. Death has claimed Justice William M. McCarty, one of Utah's most distinguished distin-guished jurists and a man belovcl by citizens in all walks of life and of all creeds and political faiths. Justice Mc-Carty Mc-Carty was first elected to the supreme bench in 1902, and held his place until the day of his death. He served two terms as chief justice, aud, bad he lived, would have again presided over the court for a term of two years, beginning begin-ning January 1. Justice McCarty was a native of Utah. He was studious as a youth, and it is said that his legal studies wero completed while he was engaged in driving a freight wagon bc-tu" bc-tu" eeu Utah points and mining camps in Nevada. He had the spirit of determination deter-mination while a boy, and he climbed to the top of his profession while yet comparatively young. Justice McCarty was intensely patriotic and two of his sons are now' in tho service of their country. He was a just judge, a sterling ster-ling citizen, a devoted husband and a lovin father. He will be sorely missed by his colleagues upon the bench and sincerely mourned by all who know him. The Tribune tenders its heartfelt sympathy to the bereaved wife and children in their hour of affliction. |
