VICTORY OF ITALY MAKES NEW COUNTRY, POINCARE STATES PARIS. Dec. 20. (Havas.) The victory of Italy has created a new Italy in a new Europe, declred President Poincare last night In toasting King Victor Emmanuel at a banquet in the Palace of the F.lysee. The greatness of Italy's victory, the president said, was duo to the intervention interven-tion of the king, which had resulted in the destruction of former diplomatic combinations com-binations and the tightening of the bonds of sentiment and Interest between France and Italy. Italy and France wre allies in tho war and remain united In peace- King Victor Emmanuel expressed thanks for the cordial welcome given him in Paris. France and Italy, he continued, were at 'the threshold of an era of pacific pa-cific collaboration and had a great common com-mon mission to accomplish. The Matin savs that the toasts exchanged by the president and the king marked the beginning be-ginning of an intimate and fruitful alliance.
