Governor Bamberger had a lengthy conference today to-day with Secretary of War E'aker at which he urged the. muster out of the 1 4.)th field artillery in the home state. Secretary En ker told tlio governor he was anxious to please tlie people of Utah and hoped the governor's request might be complied with. Investigation has already al-ready been ordered into quarters and accommodations available, especially at the Agricultural college at Ixgan, where, according to telegraphic information sent tho governor, provision can readily be made for tho accommodation of 1S00 men or 100 more than comprise the Utah artillery regiment. Secretary Baker suggested to Governor Bamberger that if for any reason it Is found impracticable to retain tho 140th for any length of time In Utah ho might order the regiment to slop at some demobilization de-mobilization camp between the port of embarkation and Utah, where thf) men could be physically examined and then have the regiment sent to Logan for formal muster out in a body if it develops de-velops that accommodations at Logan or Salt Pahe cannot be provided to meet requirement of the war department for the length of time required for demobilization. demobili-zation. The governor urged that the alternative alterna-tive plan proposed by the secretary be followed and he feels confident this will be done. Such a plan would at least permit tho regiment to return to Utah as a unit and be formally mustered out in a body.
