Assuming that the schools will reopen about the first of tiie new year, it is recommended by the state board of education edu-cation that in all elementary, junior and Henior hlfe'h schools in the state provision be rnad'- for the i!su:il promotions and credits iit the end of the year. The board further reoimcmnds the following fol-lowing means of adjustment in making up thn work: First liy revising the course of study through eliminating subject mater of least importance and by modifying the standards stand-ards of attainment in subject matter for tit! year. Second By utilizing vacation periods, holidays and .Saturdays and, if need be, by lengthening the periods of recitation and hours of the school day. Third By improvment in teaching tchnicmc Fourth 1'y a systematic enlistment of the best efforts of pupils and teachers through calling their attention to the wonderful lessons taught by the war, and by inculcating the spirit of achievement, cooperation, and an optimistic attitude of mind to the end that the normal amount of work for the year so far aa possible shall be accomplished. |
