Show LOCAL MATERIALS GIVEN PREFERENCE Bulk of Money for Fort Douglas Construction to Be Spent Here. Mess Hall, Kitchen and Two Sets of Barracks to Be Built. ' The bulk of the money to be spent by the government for materials tor con-structing con-structing the new mess hall and kitchen and two sets of barracks for the general hospital at Fort Oouglas will be used lo-callv, lo-callv, it is indicated in information received re-ceived yesterday by the constructing quartermaster. All of the 'matorials to be used, with J exception of a portion of the lumber, is to he bought here, it is said, and th-: portion por-tion purchased in Sa.lt L;i ke will bu shipped here from Camp Kearny. Col., where the stopping of additional construction con-struction has left surplus lumber urt hand. The construction division has r.otitied local plumbing conc-rns to suornit bids in Washington on the plumbing work to be done tn the new buildings and the constructing quartermaster- here is expecting expect-ing to hear from these bids in a short time. Just what the contract will call , for in expenditures on this work is not known, but it is estimated that it will amount to several thousands of dollars. ' It develops that the engineer supply depot was nio?ed from Vancouver to Salt Lake to make certain buildings at Vancouver Van-couver available lor use by the spruce production division and now that that division di-vision has completed its work it will be cleared out of the post and the engineer depot will return to its old location. Bersreach. commanding command-ing the depot, wl.o has b.-en in San Francisco Fran-cisco conferring mtli officials of the department de-partment relative to moving' the depot, ts expected to reach home this morning. Chidester Order Coming. The format order discharging Major Walter C. Chidester. commanding officer of United States army general hospital No. '21 at Fort Douglas, from the military mili-tary service is due to be issued in Washington Wash-ington at noon today. The order -will be sent here, probably by night letter, and the major will remain re-main on duty with the hospital until the formal order is received, which will probably prob-ably be some time Friday.
