Show EASILY SATISFIED. It seems that Fred W. Mulkey,, who was elected to fill the unexpired term of United States Senator Harry Lane of Oregon, made an arrangement with the governor of the Webfoot state, under un-der which he was to resign on December 15 to make room for former Senator McNary, who ws elected for the full term,' beginning March 4, 1919. So Mr. Miilkey, who was sworn in on Tuesday, will serve only a few days before again returning to private life. He was appointed ap-pointed to fill an 'unexpired senatorial term a few yoars ago and served forty-three forty-three days.- A littlo of tho senate atmosphere at-mosphere evidently goes a long way with Mr. Mulkey.' He endured it for si-weeks si-weeks and one day on his, first venture, but five days was all he could stand at this time. If he should again be the choice of the voters or the governor of Oregon, he would probably resign immediately imme-diately after taking the oath of office. Tho ca3e is somowhat remarkable, for it, is usually a very difficult matter to jar a man loose when he once fastens onto a seat in the senate chamber, and Mr. Mulkey must be an extraordinary individual. |
