Show ARTILLERYMEN IN ATHLETIC CONTESTS Varied Programme Enjoyed by Members Mem-bers at Camp; Visitors Appreciate Appre-ciate Good Music ' Athletic games were substituted for drill yesterday afternoon at the Utah artillery camp and the soldiers participated partici-pated in races, tugs-of-war and other exercises. During the tug-of-war E battery bat-tery gained the distinction of breaking a two-inch rope which had survived many a contest heretofore. A spill followed the snapping of tho heavy rope which was responsible for many scraped shins and knees. '.No serious injury in-jury resulted from the crash. More than 1000 visitors and tho entire en-tire artillery command enjoyed a programme pro-gramme of music, given by Lucy Gates and the regimental baud shortly before retreat in the evening. The band, under the leadership ot ( .. ,T. Hawkins, was instructed in mounting ciiard during the afternoon by Band Leader Anton Goetz of the Twentieth infantry and Captain Fred T. Gundry, regimental adjutant. Members of the command will be dismissed dis-missed today for a visit to their homes over Sunday. Officers said yesterday that the dato of leaving for the Linda Vista concentration camp was still a .matter of mystery. |
