Show UWVEBSI1Y FACULTY CHANGES K IDE Secretary Elbert D. Thomas Advanced to Be Associate Asso-ciate Professor. FEES ARE SUSPENDED Artillerymen and Nurses Permitted to Take Work Without Pay. Several changes in the faculty of the University of Utah -were made jester-day jester-day at a special meeting of the board of regents of that institution, hold at the Farmers' and Stoekgrowers' bank, and fifteen new committees of the board were appointed. The most important faculty change was the appointment of Elbert. D. Thomas, secretary to the board of regents re-gents aaid the university and registrar of the institution, to the rank of associate asso-ciate professor. About a year ago Professor Thomas was given the rank of assistant professor in Oriental life and culture.- Prior to that he had been an instructor. Professor P. J. Pack was made instructor in-structor in botany during the absence of Professor Charles W. Twiss. who is on leave of absence at Columbia. The regents appointed Ashby D. Boyle and Preston D. Richards lecturers "hi law, and Dr. K. 8. Olsen lecturer in extension exten-sion work in the medical department. The employment of Nelson H. Norgien as aunetic coach during the football season was approved. Miss Maud Harmon Har-mon was appointed critic teacher in the training school to succeed Miss Vineo Keller, whose resignation was accepted. Miss Belle Clements was aJso made critic teacher in the training train-ing school. The arrangement was ratified rati-fied whereby Captain Eugene M. Sant-schi, Sant-schi, Jr., is acting as instructor in military mili-tary science and tactics at the university univer-sity until he is called away from Fort Douglas. Fees Are Suspended. The board decided not to charge any registration fee to men registered in the Utah artillery who are taking work at the university and to allow nurses in the Salt Lake hospitals to register for laboratory work, without paying the regular registration fee. ' The board appointed James B. Walk-lev Walk-lev head janitor at the university, and Martin Christopherson landscape gardener gar-dener and superintendent of the grounds. It was decided at the meeting to affiliate the university with the American Amer-ican University Union in France. The nnion plans to maintain houses near the front, where American university men may make their quarters, and the decision" deci-sion" of the board yesterday will allow students and alumni of the University of Utah to enjoy these privileges.
