Show rban Gardens Rival Country Potato Fields City Park Department's War Patches Prove to Be Helpful. XCEPTIONAL success lias resulted Efrom the efforts of the city park department to do something agriculturally agri-culturally toward combatting the high cost of living.' Commissioner Herman II. Green, head of the park department, has reported informally in-formally to the other commissioners that the city's harvest of potatoes will be anywhere any-where from 3000 to 6000 bushels of very fine tubers. Ten acres of the potatoes were grown on the Riverside park property, west ot the Jordan river, at Ninth North street. Seven acres are being harvested on the city's farm in Parley's canyon. In addition, an excellent crop of wheat and oats has been cut at the farm and will be threshed there some time within the next few days.- Commissioner Green said that the city will undoubtedly have, in addition to the potato crop, some wheat to sell and will have a sufficient supplv of carrots, beets and other roots to feed to the animals of the Liberty park zoo this winter. |
