Show DRAWN MATCHES IN PATRIOTIC TENNIS PTTTSBURG. Pa., Sept. 28. Drawn matches in both the men's and the mixed doubles were features of the first day's play in the patriotic tennis tournament on the courts of the Pittsburg Athletic club for the benefit of an ambulance unit to be outfitted by the National Lawn Tennis association. Charles Garland of Pittsburg and S. Howard Voschell, na tional indoor champion, cham-pion, met Fred B. Alexander and Harold Throckmorton. The match resulted 11 -H and 3-6. In the mixed doubles Miss Molla Bjurstedt was paired with Harohi Throckmorton against Miss Marion Van-derhoef Van-derhoef and William Tiiden, Jr., of Philadelphia. Phil-adelphia. Pennsylvania state champion. The scores were 6-4 and 4-6. Both matches will be played off tomorrow. In the singles, Garland defeated Alexander, Alex-ander, 6-8, 6-2, 6-3. Mrs. Feiix B. Snow-den, Snow-den, formerly Miss Martha Guthrie, triumphed tri-umphed over Miss Vanderhoef. 2-6, 6-3, 6-0. In a spirited contest Tiiden won from Voschell. 0-6, 6-4 and 6-4. |
