Show GOVERNOR SHIS IETIljnEUTG!5 Naturalized Citizens of Germanic Descent Also Asked to Attend. All persons of German and Austrian birth or descpnf, whether naturalized or not, have been railed by Governor Bamberger to attend a mass meeting to be held at ihe Auditorium Thursday night at S o'clock. Governor Bamberger Bamber-ger will preside at the meeting, and will deliver the principal address of the ev r-ning. The call for the meeting viw made at the office of the governor late yesterday afternoon, and Trill be joined in by other prominent citizens of Salt Lake City and county who arc of German birth or desrent. The purpose of the meeting is to give all citizens of German and Austrian birth or descent an opportunity to publicly pub-licly express their loyalty to the land of their aooption during the present inter-nationa.l inter-nationa.l crisis. Governor Bamberger is a native ot Germany, and it is understood that, in his talk he will impress upon those of German and Austriau birth who have taken out their naturalization papers their duty as citizens as pledged in their oath of allegiance, and will ask those who have not taken out citizenship papers ro at once make declaration of intention of becoming citizens. It is estimated that there are at least 2000 aliens of German and Austrian birth in Salt Lake City and county and almost as many more who have become citizens. A large majority of those who have not yet taken out their citizenship papers are residents of Bingham and Garfield and near-by mining camps. An effort will be put forth to have as many as is possible at the meeting. In addition to the speech to be delivered deliv-ered bv Governor Bamberger, there will be talks on patriotism by other citizens of foreign birth or descent. |
