' The meeting of tho beet growers sixty-one in number was held a Mid-vale Mid-vale Tuesday evening, and was presided over bv A. F. Rundquist of Midvale, with . Ray Piston of Taylorsville, as secretarv. The resolutions set out that Mr. Jones has "injected" himself into the controversy con-troversy ' between the beet growers and the sugar companies and espoused tho cause of the sugar people. It further is resolved that the United States department depart-ment of agriculture is acting unfairly toward the farmers in this territory by allowing one of its employees to take sides in such a controversy. In the same connection, the beet growers grow-ers "resent the intrusion of a government govern-ment employee, such as is the said J. W. Jones, into this controversy as the champion cham-pion of the sugar manufacturers, and we do hereby express our condemnation of the said Jones in unwarrantably dragging a department of the federal government into this affair." Another resolution reads: We condemn the officials of the Utah-Idaho Sugar company for seeking seek-ing to hide behind the United States department of agriculture in an attempt to justify and continue the policies of exploitation they have practiced toward the beet grower in the past, and we declare it to be the sense of this meeting that the said officials should be severely se-verely censured for seeking to prostitute pros-titute this department of the federal fed-eral government by using one of its minor employees to further their own selfish ends. In conclusion, the beet, growers "resolve" "re-solve" that Jones should be removed. Copies of the resolutions have been forwarded for-warded to D. F. Houston, secretary of agriculture; the Utah-Idaho Sugar company com-pany and Mr. Jones. Mr. Jones was absent from the city last nlpht and could not be seen, but D. D. McKay of Huntsville, president of the state farm bureau, said of him: "Mr. Jones ts one of the straiphtest men with whom I ever had the pleasure of associating. asso-ciating. He has the interests of both the farmers and the suar manufacturers at heart and, tn my opinion, has done excellent ex-cellent work." News came from Los Angeles last night that "Utah sugar beet growers in an official letter 40 the district attorney here ask for the co-operation of California Cali-fornia ranchers in their efforts to launch a nation-wide movement to force refiners re-finers to pay higher prices.
