Show CAPTAIN STERN IS IN HOSPITAL As the result of au injury sustained while running to a fire at Fort Douglas, which proved to be of slight character, Captain and Quartermaster ,1. H. Stern is confined to the base hospital with a badly injured knee. Tn tact, the surgeons sur-geons have already taken several X-ray photographs, and have been unable to determine whether or not the knee cap is broken or whether the injury is but, a severe ' strain. The fire call came from the post hos-pital, hos-pital, and Captain Stern, in making haste to the scene, caught his bobt in a step, causing him to stumble and injure his knee in trying to save himself from a fall. The fire proved to be but a blaze in the fireplace. Iu the meantime the work in the office of-fice of the quartermaster is progressing under the direction of Captain F. L. Fink. The payroll of the Twentieth regiment this month, it is said, will not be ready before December 10 or 127 Furthermore, because of the allowances and allotments allot-ments to be deducted, it will not be much more than $25,000. or about half of the usual amount. The delay is caused by many complications. In some cases the papers have had to be sent to Washington and returned ior alterations, and this has been responsible for the delays. |
