Spelman Leaves on Trip to Five States on Car Bureau Business. Through the efforts of '. F. Castle, chairman of the city advisory committee commit-tee on fuel, and his assistants thousands i.f old ties, the property of the Denver A- Rio Grande and the Oregon Short l.ioe railroads, are to be sold to the people peo-ple of the city for fuel. The matter of converting the ties into fuel was first taken up at the recent luncheon given by Mr. Castle to the stake presidents and ward bishopa, who rendered such excellent aid to the committee com-mittee in the taking of the coal census and the suggestion has borne abundant fruit. The attitude of the Denver it Rio Grande is reflected in the following communication received vesterdav by Mr. Castle from I'. K. Clarity, assistant general manager: Old Ties Offered. Referring to our recent conversation conversa-tion on the subject of conservation of fuel. I feel it is my duty, as well as a pleasure, to co-operate with your committee in this goo-l work, and with that end in view instructions instruc-tions have been issued to our track forces to the effect that the practice prac-tice of burninp old ties must be discontinued. Effective at once we will arrant to dispose of this old material for fuel purposes at a nominal sum. All of the old ties that are now available at our Salt Lake City vards. as we'l as any that may be accumulated in the near future, will be sold for fuel purjKses upon the basis of 5 cents per tie. These old ties will be accumulate.! accumu-late.! from time to time and piled at locations in the yard accessible to wagons. Purchasers, however, will be required to have an order from our division storekeeper. H. Benton, who will be in charge of the disbursement, and all those desiring de-siring to purchase old ties must first call at Mr. Benton 's office, where they will be furnished with a purchase ord.-r &t anv time that ties are available for sale.
