Show WRiGHT-SCHMERTZ MP1E1E PLUMS ; Diefenbacher and Crebs Establish Es-tablish Track Records; Farnow Is Professional. Phil Wright and O. U. Sjhmertz were the two riders at the Bonneville saucer track last night to show the bike fans what riding was. The former defeated Albert Crebs In the unlimited Australian pursuit race, Crebs forcing him to go 2?i miles to win. Sehmevtz was winner in the three-mile three-mile open point race, gathering a total of twenty points in the various sprints and nosing out Artie Farnow by one point. The half-mile, best two out of three heais, French style race, which u as to have been run between Iver Lawson and Bob Diefenbacher, was cancelled owing to the illness of Lawson. In place of this match race Diefenbacher and Albert Crebs set records for the new saucer track, the former for the half-mile and the latter for the (jitar ter-mile. The time set by Diefenbacher was 57 1-5 seconds, while Crebs's time was 27 seconds flat. A. Green ig. the youngest rider on the track last night and riding from the eighty-five-yard line, captured the one-third-mile amateur handicap race. B. Batson, riding from the 100-yard line, finished second, and A. Claw son. with a handicap of seventy-five yards, crossed the tape third. In the three heats previous pre-vious to the final one, the three scratch men, Walker, Farnow and O. U. Schmertz, were all nosed out by the handicapped men. While the finishes of the heats were all comparatively close, the riders with the larger handicap were able to keep the lead from the start, finishing from ten to thirty yards in front of the scratch men. Artie Farnow, who has been showing up all the amateur stars since the Bonneville Bonne-ville track opened, has turned professional. profes-sional. He will ride his first races in this class next Sunday, and may be matched with some of the other professionals profes-sionals in a match race. Manager Hardy Downing announced last night that the Thursday night races will be discontinued, and the races will be on Sunday nights only. Later on in the season an additional week night card may be added, but for the present Sunday night will be the only night of racing. Summaries: I One-third-mile handicap, amateur: First heat C.
