Show THE DESTROYERS. The Bolshoviki and the 1. W. W. and other anarchic societies are said to be in a world-wide conspiracy to overthrow the present social order. Xo conspiracy is necessary. These societies have had destruction as their object from the time they were formed. Their idea is that the present social order should be smashed and that there is no use planning how to rebuild the world until the smashing process has been completed. They say that if you waif until you find a substitute for our present order of civilization the smashing smash-ing never will be done. And they are right. The smashing never will he done because tho human mind maintains a certain balance of sanity despite the violence of anarch-isis anarch-isis and radicals and the shocks of wars and revolutions. Men will always insist in-sist upon looking before they leap. They will not change civilization for chaos at the prayer of the wildcat mentalities men-talities of Bolshoviki and I. V. VT.'s. It is said that the Bolshevjki have worn nut the patience of the Russians and arc about to be hurled from power. TIkv promised peace, plenty and division divis-ion of the lands. None of these promises prom-ises has been kept and the people, despite their besotted ignorance and their willingness to chase after the will-o'-the-wisps of every soapbox orator, ora-tor, are beginning to see that smashing up tho old machinery gets nowhere. Liberty as well as autocracy must be constructive. It must do its work according ac-cording to rule and measure. The Russians are discovering that anarchy does not pay. They realize that there must be some kind of law and order if men are to enjoy the fruits of peace and to progress toward a happier hap-pier state of society. The Bolshoviki have been compelled to adopt autocratic methods to keep themselves in power. They arc more cruel and bloodthirsty than the czars and the grand dukes. And they have accomplished nothing except to smash their country into pieces. Sooner or later the Bolsheviki will destroy themselves, for the principle of dost met ion is in them. But Russia will not follow them to destruction. It is the normal tendency of men to build up, to fight against destruction and to produce order, symmetry, useful and beautiful things. Some day soon the Russians will begin to pick up the broken pieces and fashion them together to-gether again, for life in chaos is impossible, im-possible, if they would escape barbarism bar-barism and establish livable conditions condi-tions they must abide by the old law of labor. And the labor must not be aimless. aim-less. It must Jjuild something of enduring endur-ing value. . The great peril in Russia is that the Bolsheviki will hold power long enough to carry out their work of destruction completely. Kvery day that they maintain main-tain their grip on the government the disintegration of Russia will continue. Russia must overthrow them soon or there will be no chance to re-establish the nation capable of keeping out the invader and at the same time preserv- ing order and well being within. 1 |
