Show SW. ECCLES, former Salt i Laker, who died jester- day at St. Augustine, Fla. S. W. ECCLES DIES II SUUGUSTIflE Vice President of American Smelting and Refining Co. Passes Away. S. W. Ecclos, vice president of the American Smelting & Refining- company I and formerly general traffic manager of the Oregon Short Line with headquarters in Salt Lake, died yesterday at St. Augustine, Augus-tine, Fla., according to word received here yesterday. He was 65 years of age. After resigning as general traffic manager man-ager here Mr. Eccies was transferred to the New York offices of the American Smelting & rtefining company as vice president. He recently made a trip to Florida, where he died. Mr. Eccles was associated in the early days of Utah with TV. H. Bancroft, D. E. Burley and E. 'E. Calvin in taking an active ac-tive and prominent part in developing the country' and establishing industries in T'tah and Idaho. Previous to 1SS4 he was division superintendent of the Union Pa-oific Pa-oific railroad, general manager of the Denver & New Orleans railway and general gen-eral agent of the Denver & Rio Grande at Salt Lake. From 1SS4 to 1S86 he was general freight and passenger agent of the Denver & Rio Grande Western at Salt Lake. In addition. Mr. Eccles had been associated asso-ciated with the various railroads of the country in the following capacities: Western West-ern freight agent for the Union Pacifio at San Francisco, general agent of the Southern Pacific company at El Paso, Tex., general freight and passenger agent of the Mexican International railway, general gen-eral agent of the freight department of the Union Pacific at San Francisco, general gen-eral freight and passenger agent of the mountain division of the same road at Salt Lake, assistant general freight agent of the same road, general traffic manager man-ager of the Oregon Short Line, traffic manager of the American Smelting & Refining company at New York City. At the time of his death he was president presi-dent of the Copper River & Northwestern railroad, the Mexican Union and Nevada Northern roads. Mr. Eccles is survived by a widow, two sisters, F. E. Williamson of Salt Lake, and Mrs. Belle Crocker of Washington; a daughter. Mrs. Preston Txcke of Spokane. Wash., and a mother, Mrs. Susan Eccles of Washington. 111., who is ninety years of age. Two nephews, Letter and "Earl Williamson, enlisted in the government sendee in the early spring, Lester being at present with the coast artillery at the Presidio. San Francisco, and Earl being aboard the battleship Arizona. |
