The Kiv-! or of Doubt (Dubina), renamed Then-1 do ro after Colonel Thoodoro Koosevelt, i who reported he located it in South j America, has been traced to its source , in the Cordillera Geral (Andes) mountains moun-tains by two Americans, George and : Stephen Gester of Berkeley, CaT., engineers engi-neers for the Standard Oil company, ac- I cording to their story told bore today upon their return from South America. They described it as petting its supply sup-ply from glaciers and running for 9U0 miles from the boundary between Bolivia Bo-livia and Brazil into the Madeira river near latitude five. Pictures taken along its course wero lost, they said. The two engineers reached the headwaters head-waters of the River of Doubt by crossing cross-ing the Andes with pack mules from Lima, Peru. They had with them, they said, data on Colonel Roosevelt's report with which to cheek their observations. They said they penetrated the "fever country''' where Colonel Roosevelt was siricken. They were attacked by insects and they encountered enormous reptiles and strange nnimals in the dense forests through which they hewed their way with machetes. They crossed the mountains, they t-aid. at an elevation of 17,500 feet. Cm the descent thev encountered glaciers at the 12.000-foot level. |
