Show FRANK STATEMENT. David R. Francis, our ambassador to Russia, appears to be the right man in the right place. Just now he is using his best endeavors to strengthen the commercial com-mercial ties between the Russians and the business men of the United States, which is perhaps the most important work a diplomat can accomplish. Ambassador Am-bassador Francis has returned to Petro-grad Petro-grad from Moscow, where a reception was given in his honor by the Russo-American Russo-American chamber of commerce. In an address at the reception and afterward in an interview published in one of the Petrograd papers the ambassador discussed methods of developing commerce com-merce between the two countries, and incidentally warned the Russians that if the resolutions or principles of the economic conference of the allies at Paris are carried out it is quite useless even to talk of close commercial relations rela-tions between Russia and the United States. It is just as well that tho Russians Rus-sians should understand this matter at the outset and Ambassador Francis is to be commended for speaking to the point. |
