Show SANITATION LECTURE GIVEN AT LUNCHEON Special to The Tribune. PROVO, April 19. The Commercial club at Is luncheon held today at the Roberts hotel listened to an Interesting paper on sanitation and health given by Dr. E. G. Hughes. Dr. Hug-hes called attention to the great progress made in the prevention of disease which had raised the average life from twenty years In the six teen tli century to forty years at the present time. - He urged Improved sanitary conditions, that the garbage of the entire city be regularly removed and destroyed and sewer connections made wherever possible. A camivaign of education edu-cation to Inform the people !n regard to conditions unfavorable to health should be undertaken and regulations to prevent i such conditions should be strictly enforced en-forced ; regular medical examinations of all the people should be made. A vote of thanks was tendered Dr. Hughes and tiie recommendations embodied in the paper were referred to the Commercial Commer-cial club ' committee on public welfare. A resolution was introduced placing the club on record as favoring t'oe appointment appoint-ment of a Provo man to succeed Dr. D. H. Calder as superintendent of the Ptaie Mental hospital. This provoked a lively discussion, and the resolution was finally taoled on a close vote. A report of the increase of the parcel post business at the Provo postor'fie was read by Postmaster James Cloves. |
