Guy Sterling, a well known Salt Lake civil and mining engineer, was last night elected president of . the Utah Society of Engineers at the annual banquet ban-quet of the organization held in the supper sup-per room of the Hotel Utah. C. J. Ullrich Ull-rich was elected first vice president and W. A. Wilson second vice president, L. H. Krebs was named treasurer for the ensuing year and Plugh C. Lewis was elected secretary. E. B. Ketchum was chosen as a member of the executive committee. . About eighty engineers attended the bancjuet, and listened to several entertaining enter-taining and instructive addresses. Dr. W. C. Ebaugh presided as toastmaster. City Commissioner Heber M. Wells was the first speaker, responding to the toast, "Municipal Problems." He outlined out-lined the importance of the engineer to every walk of life, as well as to the municipality. mu-nicipality. The Rev. Peter A. Simpkin delivered one of the most eloquent addresses the Utah society has" ever heard in responding respond-ing to the toast, ' The Eternal Engineering. Engi-neering. " He was followed by Attorney Attor-ney General A. R. Barnes, who spoke along patriotic lines in a manner that aroused much enthusiasm. One speaker, Dr. James E. Talmage, was unable to be present. Much of the credit for the success of the banquet was due to the work of the retiring officers and the members of the entertainment committee. On the committee com-mittee are Fred Ulmer, John Jones, Frank W. Moore and S. S. Arentz, the latter being the retiring president of the society. |
