Jack Chris-tensen's Chris-tensen's Branch Agricultural college athletes ath-letes from Cedar City made the other schools in the-southern division --look like cocks of hay in a windstorm here Friday In the annual division track and field meet to decide the representatives for the state meet to be held in .Salt Lake May 12. k. a. The winners showed superiority in eight events and in the high jump were lied for lienors. five second places and three thirds also went to B. A. C. Murdoch, state champion in track and field in Vtah high schools for several years, trailed its colors in the dust, being' third. Murdo-k. at the height of its glory, would have had an exceedingly hard lime to beat out the Cedar boys as they worked in Friday's meet. B. A. C. Favorite. The Branch Agricultural college will be strong favorites for the state meet, and fans throughout southern Utah do not see any possibility of the Cedar hoys losing. Furthermore, they expect Chris-tenscn's Chris-tenscn's proteues to have an easy time. Bo wen, star sprinter of the Cedars, showed his usual consistent form, capturing captur-ing firsts in the 100, 2:M) and 440, as well as running a spectacular finish in the relay. He made wonderful time in all events, taking into account the condition of the grounds. Coach Chris tensen regards re-gards the speedy Bowcn one of the beel men who ever has run for B. A. C. Armstrong, the crack distance man of the B. A. C, won his mile with comparative com-parative ease, but showed the effeeis of the heal . In the half-mile feeg miller, who had not figured so prominently .as his ma te, was first, with Armstrong fighting second place out with Webb ol Uixie. The 22il-yard hurdles went true to form, so lar as ShurtJ! as concerned. Me won the event last year and was first In this meet. Thorley. his mate, took second. Shurtz is an experienced man and is regarded re-garded almost a certainty. Thorley w ill push Shurtz to th-- limit, however. High Jump Tie. The high jump caused much surprise. McConnell. the winner of the event last year In the state meet, was handicapped with a weak ankle and could do no better than 5 feet S inches, which Kesler hi id George of Murdock also did, so the three were given 3 points each. 3n the broad George of Murdock won with a leap of 2" feet S Inches. Webh of Dixie was second and Smith of B. A. C. third. Atkins of Pixie was second with Xielson, B. A. C, third. During one of the preli-minary trials the vaulting pole broke with the man in the air, but he escaped uninjured. Tn the relay there was grand confusion. Dixie won. wiih B. A. C. second. Manv say that all the Dixie runners did not touch their partners, and this contention was upheld by one of the judges on the spot, so matters were arranged for the staging of the relay on Satnrday morning, hut It was not run. A big surprise to the fans was the Inability In-ability of McConnell lo surpass the mark he made in the high jump, hut with his ankle in trim and general condition improved, im-proved, he may smash the state record for the hitrh jump. He is also regarded as good for a place in the broad jump. Bunker showed a complete reversal of form In the weights, and could not heave either the shot or the discus to eain a nlace. However, he will go to the state meet a nd will likeiv make ma tters interesting. in-teresting. He will not be allowed to com-pet(; com-pet(; in events other than the weights at the state meet. According to one who ought to know, it is not believed that Dixie, Murdock and Kanab will enter representatives to the state meet, no reason being given, if so. it will be the first year that Conch "Carranza" Knapp of Murdock will not have nun in the big-classic.
