Show HIGH WIND CAUSES HEAVY FIRE DAMAGE Residence of Horace H. Cummings on East Bench Partly Destroyed; Furniture Fur-niture Is Saved. Fire, originating from sparks from the furnace flue, damaged the residence of Horace H. Cummings, 1030 East First South street, to the extent of about $1-500 yesterday afternoon. Mr, Cummings is out of the city and the amount of Insurance In-surance carried is not known. The alarm was received at the central station at 2:07 o'clock. Fire Chief W. H. By-water, one hose wagon from the central cen-tral station and the apparatus from station sta-tion No. 4, on I street, responded to the call. A high wind prevailed at the time, rendering the work of the firemen difficult. diffi-cult. The entire roof of the residence, a two and one-half story brick, was destroyed de-stroyed and the ceiling joists In two of the upper rooms burned. Most of the furniture was carried from the house while the firemen were working, work-ing, hence the damage to the contents was small. Only Mrs. Cummings and the children were present when the fire was discovered. Mr. Cummings is superintendent superin-tendent of the Mormon church schools of Utah. Mrs. Cummings said that she was not advised as to the amount of insurance in-surance which her husband carried on the residence, if any at all. |
