Show GERMAN TROOPS FLUNG BACK BY THE FRENCH ARMY PARIS, June 28, 12:20 p. m. German troops last nigh: delivered another attack at-tack on the French positions near Fleury on the sector of the Verdun front, over which violent fighting has been in progress prog-ress for several days. The assault was checked by the French fire, the war office announced today. There was spirited fizhting near the Thiaumont work which the Germans captured cap-tured several days a?o, but no change took place In the situation there. West of the Meuse there was no infantry in-fantry fighting of importance. Artillery engagements occurred In the sector between be-tween Avocourt and Chattancourt. The statement adds: "South of Laaig-ny. the Germans endeavored en-deavored last night to deliver several surprise sur-prise attacks upon minor French posts. All their efforts failed. "In the Champagne district a strong reconnoltering party of tiie enemy which was trying to roach our lines afonsr the road from St. HMalre-lc-Grand to St. Souplet, was dispersed." |
