C, arrived in the city yesterday to begin, a, campaig-n through Utah in behalf be-half of the National Woman Js party. Miss Perry will advocate the election of Governor Charles E. Hughes as president of the United States, as the Woman's party is espousing his candidacy and opposing op-posing the re-election of President Wilson. Wil-son. Miss Perry said that the Woman 's party wanted Hughes inKtead of Wilson Wil-son because Governor jf-Iughes had de-; de-; clared himself in favor of an amendment to tho federal constitution for national woman's suffrage. Miss Perry is the daughter of an old South Carolina family- "My family regard it as a disgrace for me to get into a political campaign and work against the Democrats, said Miss Perry vesterday, "In the south, you know, tlie Democratic party is the 'white man's party' and Republicans are thought quite impossible. But I think that every Democratic woman should make his sacrifice this year. President Wilson's attitude on the suffrage suf-frage question is so unsatisfactory that I consider it quite proper to campaign for Mr. Hughes." Miss Perry plans to visit every county in the state to further her Hughes-Woman's Hughes-Woman's party propaganda. She is going go-ing to start in Rich county. Also she is planning to speak at a series of drawing draw-ing room meetings in Salt Lake City. Tentative arrangements for such meetings meet-ings at the homes of Mm. Lily C. Wol-stenholme, Wol-stenholme, Mrs. Margaret Zane Cherdron and Mrs. E. M. Gannett have already been made. Later on a series of street meetings will be conducted by Miss Perry. |
