Show ENOUGH FOR ALL. V When the parcel post bill became a law it was generally expected the express ex-press companies would be forced to gc out of business. The assumption was j entirelj' wrong, for the express companies com-panies are doing more business than ever and the shareholders are reaping a har-j har-j vest. The latest evidence of this happy j state of affairs is furnished by the au-j au-j notinccmcnt that tho American Express company has declared an extra dividend of $2 on its stocks, in addition to the regular quarterly dividend of $1.50, thus ! establishing the stock on an 8 per cent dividend basis. Tho other express com-1 com-1 panics are doubtless doing as well as the American, and there is no reason to suppose that the parcel post law has done them the least bit of damage. Very many shippers prefer to patronize the express companies for various rea-' sons, and there seems to be business enough iu the country for all the carrying car-rying concerns as well as the r ostal department of the United States government. |
