Show FIRST OF SERIES OF PARK MEETINGS HELD President of Westminster College Is Principal Speaker at Initial Services. The Young Men's Christian association held the first of a series of four open-air open-air services at Liberty park yesterday afternoon with a large and appreciative audience. A choir of about fifty singers occupied a place on the platform. The message of the afternoon was presented pre-sented by the Rev. H. W. Reherd, president presi-dent of Westminster college, who delivered deliv-ered a strong address on the subject of "The Man Who Disappointed His Mother." Moth-er." The speaker said that Jabez. though called by that name by his mother because be-cause he was born In sorrow, would not permit his name to cripple him. but rose to a position of honor, regardless or his name. "Birth or name need not hinder success.'' he said. "A man may rise to great distinction and honor, ' even though handirapped thus." The speaker illustrated this point by referring to many of the great men who have lived and blessed the world- "Live so that you can disappoint the highest Ideals of your friends." was the advice. At the conclusion of the sermon D. E. Smith sang "Face to Face." and the Rev. G. F. Fink offered prayer. The Rev. L. S. Bowerman will be the speaker next Sunday. The meeting will begin at t o'clock and special music will be one of the features. |
