George B Tyler, superintendent of the Bay State mln in AmerW a n Fork canyon mining distrioi, came down from the mine today. He said work is progressing favorably at t ha t prop ertv. and that the indicat ions are more promising with every shot. The ore is opened up in the upper workings in a number of places, and there is a big tonnage of milling ore blocked out. Work on the lower tunnel, which was started a short time ago to tap the vein at a greater depth. Is progressing nicely. The tunnel is now in sixty-five feet in the lime, and they expect to cut the porphyry in a very short distance. The distance to drive to intercept the vein, according to surveys. Is about 325 feet, but it is expected from the formation forma-tion tliat ore will be encountered long before be-fore then. Slate Senator John H. Woot-ton Woot-ton spent a number of days this week inspecting in-specting the property, and with Mr. Tyler located two more claims for the Bay State. 1 Mr. Tyler came down to attend to the shipping of a car of ore which is being loaded from this property, and part of which was gotten out earlier In the season. sea-son. Not very much ore has been extracted ex-tracted this season. Most of the time has been spent in developing the low-grade bodies and in determining their extent. The miners have raised on the vein more than fifty feet and in crosscutting have not found the hanging wall yet. Plans are being considered for the installation of a mill as soon as the air connections are made with the upper workings. The work on the tunnel in the Bay State will be pushed ahead and preparations made to work the properly all winter by way of building snow sheds and otherwise protecting pro-tecting the property. |
