Show MEXICAN MANIA. What is it that has suddenly possessed pos-sessed the spirit of the Mexican bandits and revolutionists? For more than four years the revolution ha3 been in progress, prog-ress, and until a month ago there were few raids into Texan territory from the other side of the line. Now, like flock6 of birds that have heard the call of the north, the Mexicans are pouring over the line every day to kill Ameri- can ranchers and fight with American f-oblicrs. This needs a little explanation. What is it that has given .the bandits the strange impetus? Is it that the revolution revo-lution business no longer pays in a country that has been stripped to the bone? Is it that food is scarce and that the rich ranches of Texas offer food and plunder? Or is some secret influence inciting the Mexicans to shed the blood of the hated gringo? Is it CaTranza or Villa or some outside influence? in-fluence? Whatever the cause, the Mexicans arc acting with a unity of purpose, not observable up to tiia time. Hitherto aggression has been limited to firing across the line during battles or sniping nlsivfnllv when no fiahtiusr was in prog- ress. Now the raiders seem to be acting act-ing under the impulse of a common motive, mo-tive, and it would be interesting and perhaps instructive to discover the motive. |
