Sept. t. -Cornelius Van der Vllea, 27 yeai-p of age. a aon of A. M. Van der Vllea, residing at 636 West Twenty. fourth street, suffered injuries which resulted in hii death half an hour later when struck by the northbound Yellowstone Limited about S o'clock tonight. to-night. The accident occurred ii front of the home of A C Call, about two mllefc south of this city. The young man and several companions from West Oiafdan wr on Thei r wa v to spend the evening at th home of W. Bowers, who resides across the tracks from the Call farm. All the young people peo-ple except Van der .Vlies ran across the tracks when Lhey saw tho train approch-lng. approch-lng. The railed to him to hurry, hut Van der Vlies is said to have attempted to walk across the tracks. He was hurled about seventy-five feet by the locomotive lo-comotive and landed In an irrigation ditch near the tracks. The engine creel was unaware that an accident had occurred and the train was not stopped. When Van der Vlies was carried into the Call home it was found that one leg and one shoulder had been crushed and that his neck was broken. He died In thirty minutes, without regaining consciousness. con-sciousness. The body was brought to the Llndcjuist undertaking rooms in this city. |
