A battle between the Piute Indians In-dians and the combined Colorado-Utah Colorado-Utah posse under United States Marshal Aquila Nebeker of Salt Lake City is expected within forty-eight hours. Since the Colorado party left McElmo canyon Thursday morning, bound for Grayson, Utah, where Nebeker and his men waited, nothing noth-ing has been heard from them di-I di-I rectly,. and a snowstorm which has been raging intermittently in that section for two days has interfered inter-fered greatly with communication. This, however, may not be tie only reason for the silence regarding regard-ing the movements of the party, for a dispatch from Cortez, Colo., intimated inti-mated that Nebeker has established a censorship and is refusing to give out any information about his plans or the movement of his party. Monticello, Utah, was the nearest near-est point of communication reached yesterday, and a telephone operator there reported that there was reason rea-son to believe the Colorado nnH Utah men had joined and were in the vicinity of Bluff last night. Ho also said that there was good reason rea-son to believe that Nebeker and his men would engago the Indians in battle either today or tomorrow. Marshal Nebeker, this report declared, de-clared, was not giving out any information, in-formation, and the telephone company com-pany had found it impossible to get into, communication with Bluff, outside of which town the Indians are intrenched and waiting for the arrival of the white men.
