Show INDIAN W0IA1 IS AUTHORJF OPERA Vernal to See First Production Produc-tion of Piece Depicting Customs of Indian. Special to The Tribune. VERNAL. Feb. 6. An opera which depicts de-picts the life of tho Amoriean Indian, his customs and traditions, has been written and composed by William Hanson of Vernal and Mrs. Bonln, a full-blooded Cherokee Indian of tho White Rocks. It Is called "The Sun Dance." and will be presented for the first time In the Orpheus Or-pheus theater here February 13 and 14. The featuro of tho piece is the realistic realis-tic production of the famous "sun dance," as It is given by tho Utes on their reservation during tlie last of June or the first of July each year. The "sun danco" is the character picture of tho Indian, depicting his emotions, superstitions supersti-tions and beliefs. It is a religion with him and he dances It with zeal, seeking guidance of tho "Groat Spirit." Vernal residents havo many Indian I relics and robes, secured from nearby 1 reservations. These have been loaned ko the company of local amateurs which will present tho pleco to add to the realism real-ism of tho production. An orchestra, composed of Vornal's be3t musicians, will render the music of tho opera. Its unique character has rnado it tho toplo of discussion dis-cussion horo and its presentation is looked forward to with unusual Interest. |
