The fjiiestionj of whether or uot tho house approves of the election of United States senators by direct vote of the peoplo has come before that body, and is expected to bo brought lo au issue within a day or two, perhaps today. Following the action of tho seuato, which, on Wcdnesda', killed the resolution reso-lution providing for tho ratification of the amendment to tho federal constitution constitu-tion providing for tho election of Uuited States seuators by direct vote, two concurrent con-current resolutions were presented iu tho house yesterday proposing ratification. ratifica-tion. One of them wns offered by Durham Dur-ham of Beaver and tho othor b' Smith of Kano. Thej' wore referred to tho committoe ou resolutions. Tho Kane resolution is in shortor form than tho Durham measure, but the lattor, it is thought, will bo given tho right of way. Tho two measures arc to tho same effect. The committoe on resolutions, it is understood, will report tho resolutions favorably. There may he a minoritj' report also, but, in any ovon.t, the resolutions reso-lutions will bo brought boforo tho house for adoption or rejection.
