Show Royal Ruler of the Order of Good Fellows Announces His Plans for Celebrating Christmas. GOOD FELLOW, royal ruler of the Order of Good Fellows, noticing notic-ing tho various Christmas window win-dow displays, the suggestions on signs and in advertisements, asking people to "do their shopping early," decided that ho must start his work again, so locking np his business desk yosterday he took his good fellowship key and opened the desk of his ordor. He announces that the password, grip, initiation fco and secret work this year will be the same as last. All these requisites are comprised in tho true spirit of the Christmas season; good fellowship. Tho only belief that tho members have to have is that they can enjoy Christmas more by giving a small amount toward making Santa Glaus a possibility in the homes of tho city's poor. When ceen yestorday afternoon at his headquarters, the royal ruler of tho biggest-hearted ordor in tho world was busy ranking out lists of children of the city's poor. Without tho help of tho Good Fellows these children would awako Christmas morning with the realization that thero oithor is no Santa Claus or that tho saint is only a rich man's Santa Claus. The thousands thou-sands of "good fellows" throughout thc city who send their names, addresses and number of children for whom they will buy presents this year, to Good Fellow, tho head of the order, will make Santa 'claus a reality in every homo of tho city. Discusses Campaign. In discussing his enmpaign. for this year Good Fellow said: I 'sent out a letter last year to the good fellows of Salt Lake tel- ling them that on Christmas day, 1911, at least 1000 childron awoke and found that their stockings woro cmptv. That letter evidently hit tho spot for do yon know that as a result of the response of good follows fol-lows of this city, there wore mighty few ohildren, at least whoso names i and addresses woro secured by tho Order of Good Fellows, forgotten by the Christmas saint. The lotter referred to by tho royal ruler proved such a result-brlngor in last vear's membership campaign and was the direct cause of so many full stockings for tho chUdren of indigent parents, that ho has decided to send it out again 1Mb year. It is published pub-lished herewith. To look at Good Fellow as ho beams over his glasses while making plans to mako tho little tots happy, you would not think of his as a possible candidate candi-date for the role of Santa Claus. Probably there aro hundreds of other mn in the city ho with wh.skers and a little padding jwrould make a much iore Sell Saint Nick for a Sunday uehool Christmas tree colebra.ion. Looks Like Good Fellow. In fact the head of the Good Fel-lowa' Fel-lowa' ordor looks more like a real eood fellow" than anything else. Tic i a business man wearing a; snnle-,ot snnle-,ot tho smile of oommercal.., but the heart-deep ermflo wlich goes with tho thought that he is doing somo good in the world. Probably a majority of tho "good fellows" will look somewhat like their chief. There is little doubt that they will wear smilos as soon as they enter the iold .of the organization, for frowns und good fellowship do not associate with one another. In fact, they are bitter enemies and as 'soon as true good fellowship arrives tho frowns aro driven away. And Good Fellow expects ex-pects good fellowship to carry on this driving out process until it terminates in a general rout of all the Glooms so numerous in homes where Santa Claus pays few visits and to Ieavo in their places tho Joys of toys for little girls and boys. Continues Discussion. Continuing his discussion of tho work to bo accomplished this year and warming warm-ing to the subject of the "Christmas spirit," Good Fellow said: Those who have read Dickens's "Christmas Carol" and most of us have will remember tho character charac-ter of "Scrooge," the hard-hearted, stingy old man who doclared that the spirit of Christmas was not real, that it was all sham. Later La-ter in the story by tho good fellowship fel-lowship method Scrooge was convinced con-vinced that tho words merry (Jhnstmns qo mean sometuing. eo you boo that our order is an ancient on and was on the job even in the dayB of which Dickons wroto. There aro not so many Scrooges in the world. Most all of us believe that there is a different spirit in tho air during tho holidays. Good Follow is enthusiastic ovor the prospocts for splendid work this year and declares that tho membership campaign cam-paign should prodnco ovon moro good fellows than wero securod last year.
