At the Goodwood races yesterday, a prominent member jH of Tattersalls informed' Sir Frederick Ponsonby, eauerry to King George, that he held a promissory note indorsed by the young Prince of Wales for $2500. drawn by a Major Gascoyne. and that the note was overdue, unmet by ho drawer. It is said the prince met Gascoyne, who is a great friend of Lord Carring-ton, Carring-ton, a member of the royal household, at Lord Saville's house party last win- jH ter, and for reasons not divulged the young prince put his name to the note, the latter finally finding its way into the hands of a bookmaker, who in turn acquainted Sir Frederick Ponsonby. The latter at once informed the Icing, with the result that the note was im-mediately im-mediately pnid by the king's treasurer, and Major Gascoyne was ordered abroad to whereabouts unknown.
