The business district of Ogden blazed for tho first time tonight with a myriad of lights, which places this city In the list of the. best-lighted cities of the west, If not at the very top of tho list. After many weeks of construction construc-tion and preparation, tho "Great White Way" lighting system was placed In operation, op-eration, transforming Washington avenue ave-nue and Twenty-fifth street into ribbons of white light and forming a huge cross i of brilliancy In tho heart of the city. The district included in tho new lighting light-ing sytcm is that portion of Washington avenuo between Twenty-second and Twenty-sixth streets and Twenty-fifth street between Wall and Adams avenues. ave-nues. For that entiro distance theny aro fourteen flaming electric arc lamps to each block seven to each side. On each of the Intersections throughout the district dis-trict there is a lamp on each corner of tho crossing, thus doubling tho brilliancy at tho points where traffic is heaviest. With the lamps placed at uniform height on the Iron poles which support the street car trolley wires and blazing pure white abovo ornamental Iron brackets brack-ets more than three feet In length, the beautiful effect Is even more pleasing than had been promised by those who designed the system. Credit for the Inauguration In-auguration of tho "Great While Way" lighting systom Is duo to the citv commissioners, com-missioners, Ogden Rapid Transit company com-pany and owners of property In the business busi-ness district. It was originally proposed to hold a carnival In celebration of tho completion of the system, but owing to the many othor attractions during tho summer months it was decided to postpone the affair until the annual "Fashion Show" Is held in the fall. |
