MANTI, Nov. 27.-;-For a number of yctira the forest service has been making a study of the watershed conditions on the Ma nil national forest, and during the past season a very careful examination of the watersheds mentioned was completed. com-pleted. In order to eliminate the continuation continua-tion of the Injurious effects on this important im-portant resource upon which tho agricultural agricul-tural Interests and the permanent development de-velopment of the country Is so dependent, depend-ent, the forester has decided that a strip varying from ono to two miles In width to tho eastward of tho main divide, bo closed to grazing until August 20. In order to make this possible, the secretary of agriculture has ordered that 155.000 head of shcup and 16.700 cattlo ami horses t be grazed on the forest during tho season of .1911. The decrease in the number of slock authorized is a reduction reduc-tion in the number allowed last year of 27.000 head of sheep and 2000 head of cattle and horses. In order to reduce the number of sheep to that authorized by the. secretary, a flat rate reduction will be' made, on all the permits . abovo 200 head. That Is, tho samo percentage cut will he made on all permits above this number provided none arc reduced below 200 head. The cut will amount to about 17n per cent. To accomplish the necessary reduction in cattle and horses, a cut will be made on all permits for more than twenty head. |
