Show DR. WILLIAMS, PENNSYLVANIA, SUGGESTS IMPORTANT CHANGE PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 27. Dr. Carl Williams, representative of the University Univer-sity of Pennsylvania on tho football rules committee and chairman of thcradvisory board of coaches: is of .the opinion that while the now rules have decreased Injuries, In-juries, they have not made tho game more interesting to the spectators.- "The game has been marred," ho said, "by the fact that under the new rules 'prohibiting tho giving of asslstanco to the runner it is almdst lmposslblo for either of two evenly matched teams to caln more than two or three consecutive first downs. "I would remedy this by permitting the runner to receive the assistance of at least one man. H such a rule wore passed, it would be possible to restrict the forward pass to hack of tho line of scrimmage. This would glvo the offense of-fense an even chance. Then I would remove the twenty-yard restriction from the. on-side kick., " "With the experience of this year as a guide, next year's game should be far morO interesting and Just ar, safe " |
