Van Herbert was guilty of obtaininy money unoer false pretenses and sentenced sen-tenced him to pay a fine of S30 or spend o0 days ln the Jail Van Herbert's attorney at-torney made a strong fifjht for the release re-lease of his client on the ground that he had just completed serving a sentence in the county Jail for the same offense of which he was today convicted. Van Herbert stole a. diamond ring: und pawned It at Smith's pawnshop. The Jewel wac recovered by the owner and Van Herbert Her-bert sentenced to 60 days In Jail. Immediately Im-mediately upon his release the proprietor of the pawnshop threatened to prosecute for obtaining money under false pretenses pre-tenses unless restitution for his financial loss was made. Van Herbert refused to do this and the adverse decision of the court followed. |
